The second day of the Building the Data-Driven Hotel Executive Programme moved beyond theory into action as hotel executives learned how to transform operational data into strategic business decisions that improve profitability, guest satisfaction and operational excellence. Hosted by Mount Kigali University’s Institute of Capacity Building (ICB) at Kigali Paramount Hotel (KPH), the programme continues to position both institutions as champions of innovation, executive education and hospitality excellence.

Bringing together senior leaders from Rwanda’s hospitality sector, the intensive executive training challenged participants to rethink how everyday operational information can become one of the industry’s greatest competitive advantages. Building on the strong foundation established on Day One, participants explored practical approaches to reading hotel performance dashboards, interpreting key performance indicators (KPIs), analysing operational trends and making faster, evidence-based management decisions. Rather than relying on assumptions, managers were equipped with practical tools to make informed decisions that directly impact hotel performance.

Facilitated by Dr. Krantz Mwantepele, the sessions demonstrated that every successful hotel decision begins with understanding the right data. Participants examined critical indicators covering revenue performance, operational costs and labour efficiency before progressing into a practical hotel operations dashboard simulation. Through an interactive “08:00 Stand-Up Meeting” exercise, hotel managers experienced how executive teams can use live operational dashboards to respond quickly to emerging challenges and opportunities before they affect business performance.
The programme also guided delegates through every stage of the hotel operations value chain, demonstrating how departments can work together using shared information to improve efficiency, service delivery and financial performance.

One of the highlights of the day was an in-depth analysis of global hospitality leaders including Marriott, Hilton, Accor, Radisson Blu Kigali, and Serena Hotels. Participants explored how internationally recognised brands leverage operational intelligence, performance dashboards and structured decision-making frameworks to deliver consistent guest experiences while maintaining strong financial results. The discussions encouraged participants to benchmark their own institutions against global best practices while adapting proven strategies to Rwanda’s rapidly growing hospitality industry.
The afternoon shifted into a dynamic live simulation titled “Your Tuesday,” where participants worked through a realistic hotel operating scenario from start to finish. Faced with changing occupancy levels, operational pressures and service challenges, delegates collaborated to analyse available information, defend management decisions and agree on the most effective course of action. The exercise reflected the realities faced daily by hotel executives and reinforced the importance of making timely, data-informed decisions that balance guest satisfaction with operational efficiency.

Rather than ending with theory alone, each participating property developed its own customised Management Dashboard, identifying the key performance indicators, operational thresholds and trigger actions that will guide management decisions long after the training concludes. This practical deliverable ensures participants return to their hotels with immediately applicable tools capable of strengthening operational oversight and improving organisational performance.
The executive programme reflects Mount Kigali University’s growing commitment to bridging academic excellence with industry transformation through practical executive education. By convening hospitality leaders at Kigali Paramount Hotel, the initiative has created a collaborative platform where knowledge, innovation and industry experience converge to address real operational challenges facing modern hotels.

For Kigali Paramount Hotel, hosting the programme reinforces its role not only as a premier hospitality destination but also as a centre for professional development, innovation and industry engagement. As the programme heads into its final day focusing on Artificial Intelligence and institutional transformation, participants are now equipped with a stronger understanding of how structured data can drive better leadership, smarter resource allocation and sustainable business growth.

Through initiatives such as this, Mount Kigali University continues to strengthen its position as a leading institution for executive education, research and industry partnership, while Kigali Paramount Hotel demonstrates its commitment to nurturing excellence within Rwanda’s hospitality ecosystem. Together, the two institutions are helping shape a new generation of hospitality leaders capable of making faster, smarter and more impactful decisions in an increasingly data-driven world.
