Mount Kigali University (MKUR) has officially launched the iLead Rwanda Programme, a landmark initiative that reinforces the University’s commitment to nurturing ethical, innovative and socially responsible leaders equipped to make a lasting impact in Rwanda and beyond. The launch ceremony, held at the University’s Kigali campus, was officiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Martin Kimemia, alongside representatives from iLead Rwanda, led by Mr. Ndamukunda Alexander, National Program Manager. The event marked the beginning of an exciting three-year leadership journey that will empower MKUR students with the character, values and practical leadership skills needed to thrive in an increasingly dynamic world.
Speaking during the launch, Dr. Martin Kimemia reaffirmed Mount Kigali University’s commitment to developing graduates who excel not only academically but also as principled leaders capable of driving sustainable development. “Leadership is more than holding positions of influence; it is about creating positive change. Through the iLead Rwanda Programme, we are investing in our students’ character, decision-making abilities and leadership capacity to prepare them for meaningful service in their communities, workplaces and society.”
The iLead Rwanda Programme is implemented by Africa New Life Ministries in partnership with the Maxwell Leadership Foundation and educational institutions across Rwanda. The programme is built around a progressive three-stage leadership framework, iChoose, iDo and iLead, which enables students to grow from self-awareness and purposeful decision-making to practical leadership and community transformation. During the launch, Mr. Ndamukunda Alexander, National Program Manager for iLead Rwanda, encouraged students to embrace the opportunity to become transformational leaders. “The iLead journey is about building character before building careers. We believe every young person has the potential to become a leader who inspires positive change, and we are delighted to partner with Mount Kigali University in shaping that future.”
Since its introduction in Rwanda, the iLead initiative has empowered tens of thousands of students with values-based leadership education through its collaboration with Africa New Life Ministries and the Maxwell Leadership Foundation, contributing to the development of a new generation of ethical and purpose-driven leaders. For Mount Kigali University, the launch of the programme aligns with its broader vision of producing graduates who combine academic excellence with leadership, innovation and community engagement. Through initiatives such as iLead Rwanda, the University continues to provide learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom, enabling students to develop the confidence, resilience and practical skills required to address real-world challenges.
The programme also complements MKUR’s strategic focus on holistic education by cultivating graduates who are not only employable but also capable of influencing positive change across business, government, civil society and entrepreneurship.
