How to Register Your Units/Modules Each Semester
A step-by-step walkthrough of the semester unit registration process on the MKUR student portal. Complete all 3 steps to confirm your registration.

Portal Access
Log In to the Student Portal
login.mkur.ac.rw
- Open your browser and go to login.mkur.ac.rw.
- Enter your Roll / Enrollment No / EMP Code in the first field.
- Enter your Password in the second field.
- Click LOGIN. You will be taken to your student dashboard.

Forgot your password? Click Forgot Password? on the login page. For further help, contact the MKUR ICT helpdesk or the admissions office.

Information Popup
- When you first log in, a popup labelled “For Your Information Only” will appear.
- It shows your Enrollment No, Class, Lab Batch, and any pending fees for the current academic year.
- You must complete all steps shown in the popup to close it — follow any instructions displayed.
Dashboard Navigation
- Once on the dashboard you will see sections for Notices and New Uploads under Current Activity.
- The top navigation bar gives access to all portal features.
⚠️
If you have outstanding fees, they will be shown in the popup. Clear any pending payments before attempting unit registration, as unpaid fees may block the process.

Navigation
Go to Unit Registration

- In the top navigation bar, click Unit Registration — it is visible directly in the menu bar.
- If you don’t see it, click the red More + button on the right side of the navigation to expand the full menu.
- The expanded menu shows: Dashboard, Academic, Notices, Exam, Holiday List, Unit Registration, E-Content (Download), Fees, Time Table, Library, and Credit Transfer Request.
- Click Unit Registration to proceed to the Semester Registration section.

Unit Registration opens the Semester Registration flow — a 3-step process: Basic Information → Program Elective Subject → Final Verification.

Confirm Basic Information

- The page displays your student profile for confirmation — check that all details are correct.
Your Details Shown

- If you see “Semester Registration Process Pending” — this is normal; it means registration has not yet been completed.
- Click CONFIRM & NEXT at the bottom of the page.
- A dialog will appear: “Are you sure? You must complete all steps to confirm registration, otherwise your registration will not be confirmed.”
- Click Yes to proceed to Step 2.
⚠️
Do not close your browser or navigate away mid-registration. You must complete all 3 steps in one session — incomplete registrations are not saved.

Select Your Elective Units

How to Read This Page
- The page is split into two panels: Select Elective Units (left) and Selected Units (right).
- Each unit shows a Code (e.g. BCU8111), a Name (e.g. English for General Purposes), and a Short Name.
How to Select Units
- Click the checkbox on the left of each unit you want to register for.
- Once ticked, the unit will immediately appear in the Selected Units panel on the right with a red ✗ you can click to remove it.
- Select units as per the conditions displayed — your department specifies how many electives you must take.
- Click View More in the Instructions box to read the full selection rules for your programme.
- When satisfied with your selection, click CONFIRM & NEXT.
Instructions Summary
- Elective units are offered by your respective Department for that semester.
- Select units per the condition displayed — do not over-select or under-select.
- Units are selected by clicking the checkbox — selected units appear on the right panel.
- Choose from the options for each Elective-I, II, or III as offered by your programme.
💡
To deselect a unit, click the red ✗ next to it in the Selected Units panel on the right, or uncheck it on the left.

Final Verification of Selected Units

- The Final Verification page shows a full table of all units you have selected, with their Semester, Unit Name, Credits, Unit Code, and Type.
- Review each row carefully — confirm the unit names, codes, and credits are all correct.
- Tick the checkbox: “I have verified the above units and agree to pay the examination fees and appear in exam.”
- If you need to make changes, click CHANGE SUBJECT to go back to Step 2.
- If everything is correct, click FINAL CONFIRM.
⚠️
By clicking FINAL CONFIRM, you agree to pay examination fees for all listed units and to sit their exams. Double-check before confirming — changes after this point may not be possible without visiting the Registrar’s office.

Complete
Registration Confirmed ✓

- After clicking FINAL CONFIRM, you will be returned to the Basic Information page.
- The status button will now display: “Semester Registration Process Complete” — this confirms your registration was successful.
- The URL will also show
?Success=TRUEconfirming the submission. - You can now proceed to pay your examination fees via the Fees section in the portal.
- Your registered units will appear in your Time Table and Exam sections once processed.

Your semester unit registration is complete! Take a screenshot of this confirmation page for your records. If the status still shows “Pending” after completing all steps, wait a few minutes and refresh, or contact the Registrar’s office.
What Happens Next
- Pay any outstanding tuition and examination fees through the Fees section or via UrubutoPay.
- Check the Time Table section for your lecture and lab schedule.
- Check Notices and New Uploads regularly for course materials from your lecturers.
- Access course notes and resources through the E-Content section.
