About Mount Kigali University
Mount Kigali University was originally Mount Kenya University Rwanda (MKUR), a campus of Mount Kenya University in Kenya which opened its doors in Rwanda in the year 2010. In April 2023, it was accredited by the government of Rwanda and changed its name after approval by a cabinet resolution chaired by his Excellency, President Paul Kagame.
The name resonates with the country’s pride (Mount Kigali) as the institution retains all the attributes that comes with being autonomous adhering to the Rwanda Qualification framework and the laws governing higher education in the country. These are: High quality undergraduate and postgraduate academic programmes, cutting edge infrastructure; topnotch faculty; international education; scholarships; diverse corporate responsibility programmes and high employability of graduates. There has also not been any change in the university ownership.
Overtime the university has improved its academic infrastructure. Its facilities in Health Sciences and Hospitality are among the best institutions of Higher learning in Africa. It offers a wide range of Academic and Professional courses, through various flexible modes that include online, face to face, day and weekend and Institutional based learning (School based)

The Land of a Thousand Hills
Only three decades ago, Rwanda,a small, land-locked country in Central Africa was the epicentre of one of the worst pogroms in human history.
