SHTTM SCHOOL PROFILE
The School of Hospitality, Travel and Tourism Management (SHTTM) is one of the leading schools in Rwanda. The school has won numerous awards such as being voted the best Higher Learning Institution in Rwanda in 2022 by Rwanda Chamber of Tourism for excellent training. This has resulted to its graduands to be widely sought after by employers in Rwanda and the international market. The growth of the tourism sector in the region is linked to its natural resources which is leading to economic growth and creating job opportunities. Our school has taken the lead to be the first in Rwanda to launch a training hotel, Kigali Paramount Hotel, which aims to enhance skills of our students. The school aims to be a regional centre of excellence in training man power in the hospitality and industry. The school is also in the final stages of launching Regional Research Centre for Hospitality & Tourism and soon to create Innovation and Incubation Hub for Hospitality and Tourism. The school also takes pride of having a dedicated qualified academic staff with exceptional international experience in both the industry and academic.
KIGALI PARAMOUNT HOTEL
Kigali Paramount Hotel is used as a commercial hotel as well as an application hotel for the School of Hospitality, Travel & Tourism Management (SHTTM). The vision of the Hotel is to be a distinguished and leading facility offering international hospitality and culture with a local touch. The hotel is located in a tranquil environment and provides a good ambiance for the clients. It boasts of a 41 Guest rooms inclusive a penthouse, swimming pool, main Kitchen, student training kitchen, main restaurant, student training restaurant, a 500 capacity conference hall and three (3) conference rooms. Indeed, this offers an ideal training facility for the students currently enrolled in the School of Hospitality, Travel & Tourism Management (SHTTM) of Mount Kigali University. These courses in the school are modelled along Competency-based education and Training (CBET). The students will train in the facility from 2nd semester through to the 8th semester. They will undertake 8-hours shifts at least 4 days per week at the facility in the all departments of the hotel on a rotational basis.
OUR PROGRAMS
SHTTM has developed curriculums suitable to fill the identified gaps in MICE, hospitality and tourism industry. The programs offered by the school incorporate technology and innovation to meet the demands of the current job market and anticipated continued influence of technology in conducting business in modern times.
These programs aim to equip the learners with knowledge, develop ideas on research and innovation on matters related to the industry. The programs are to create awareness on tourism industry’s contribution towards community service in order to achieve social-economic development
The SHTTM is composed of two departments:

- Department of Hospitality & Events Management.
VISION

To provide hospitality, tourism and MICE industry with well qualified human resource having gained hands-on practical training, research and innovation.
The programs accredited under the school are as below:
- ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN CULINARY ARTS
Admission Criteria: To be admitted to the first year of an undergraduate a candidate should have an Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education senior 6 with at least two principal passes and a subsidiary in Arts/sciences related subjects
Students who have successfully completed vocational education and training (TVET)
Students from other accredited universities and colleges on credit transfers.
Any other student whose qualifications are recognized by the Higher Education Council and Rwanda National Qualifications Framework
Expected Career Outcomes
Graduates from the programme are expected to work as Executive Chefs, Sous Chef, Pantry Chef (Garde Manger), Sauce Chef, Pastry Chef and Cook, food and beverage managers/supervisors. Job opportunities in hotels and lodges, airlines, cruise lines, academic institutions, hospitals, Specialized cuisines, catering entrepreneurs etc.
2. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
Admission Criteria
To be admitted to the first year of an undergraduate a candidate should have:
Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education senior 6 with at least two principal passes and a subsidiary in Arts/sciences related subjects.
Students who have successfully completed senior 6 professional and technical and vocational basic education (TVET) with at least two principal passes in relevant subjects.
Any student with a diploma in Hospitality, Travel and Tourism related fields.
Expected Career Outcomes
Graduates from the programme are expected to work as operational, personnel, managers, event organizers, executive chefs, front office staff, guest relations, food and beverage managers/supervisors, airline and cruise attendants in hotels and lodges, airlines, cruise lines, academic institutions, hospitals, etc Front Office operation management, Specialised cuisines, Housekeeping and laundry management, Food and beverage management, Banqueting services, Customer Relationship, and Entrepreneurship.
3. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN TRAVEL & TOURISM MANAGEMENT
Admission Criteria
To be admitted to the first year of an undergraduate a candidate should have:
Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education senior 6 with at least two principal passes and a subsidiary in Arts/sciences related subjects.
Students who have successfully completed senior 6 professional and technical and vocational basic education (TVET) with at least two principal passes in relevant subjects.
Any student with a diploma in Travel and Tourism related fields
Expected Career Outcomes
Graduates from the programme are expected to work as Tours and Travel consultants, Tour Guides, Air Ticketing and Reservations Agents, Airline Customer Service Agents, Frontline personnel in airlines, Cruiseships, hotels and lodges, academic institutions, museums, national parks and reserves, conservancies.
4. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EVENTS MANAGEMENT
Admission Criteria
To be admitted to the first year of an undergraduate a candidate should have an Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education senior 6 with at least two principal passes and a subsidiary in Arts/sciences related subjects
Students who have successfully completed vocational education and training (TVET).
Students from other accredited universities and colleges.
Any other student whose qualifications are recognized by the Higher Education Council and Rwanda National Qualifications Framework.
Expected Career Outcomes
Graduates from this programme are expected to work as Events Manager, Conference Organizers, Event Planners, Banquet Managers. Job opportunities in hotels, conventions and entrepreneurship
5. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT
Admission Criteria
To be admitted to the first year of an undergraduate a candidate should have an Advanced General Certificate of Secondary Education senior 6 with at least two principal passes and a subsidiary in Arts/sciences related subjects
Students who have successfully completed vocational education and training (TVET).

6. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT
Admission Criteria
To be admitted to the program leading to the award of Master of Science in Hospitality Management, a candidate should have:-
First Class or Upper Second-class upper division or Second Lower-class Division from a recognized university. Pass degree in Hospitality and Tourism with two years working experience in the hospitality industry.
Any other student with Bachelor degree in Hospitality Management or related discipline whose qualifications are recognized by the Higher Education Council.
Expected Career Outcomes
Graduates from the programme are expected, equip students with strong management and operational skills in hospitality business, have multi-faceted graduates who are multi-skilled and with entrepreneurial abilities in hospitality and tourism industry, train professionals with strong management orientation for the industry and equip students with research and innovativeness for the hospitality industry. Job opportunities in management, consultancy, hospitality strategists and academia.
7. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT
Admission Criteria
To be admitted to the program leading to the award of Master of Science in Tourism Management, a candidate should have:-
First Class or Upper Second-class upper division or Second Lower-class Division from a recognized university and Pass degree in Hospitality and tourism with two years working experience.
Any other student with Bachelor degree in Travel, Tourism Management or related discipline whose qualifications are recognized by the Higher Education Council
Expected Career Outcomes
The Master of Science in Tourism Management degree is primarily designed to prepare individuals for successful leadership roles and management careers in the tourism industry. This is by developing students’ intellectual skills and professional competencies in relation to abilities, interests and industry aspirations. The expected outcome includes obtaining professional advancement in the tourism industry as well academic advancement. Job opportunities in management, consultancy, hospitality strategists and academia.
